Knock (“Knock” or “Knock Rentals” or “we” or “us” or “our”) appreciates your use of and contributions to our websites, our mobile and desktop applications, our other properties and/or our related services (collectively known as the “Services,” or, each individually, a “Service”). Knock respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. We encourage you to read this privacy policy to understand what we do with the information we collect from you. We will comply with this policy, as well as applicable U.S. privacy law, when we gather and use information from users of the Services.


This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your personal information on the website (the “Website”), the Knock mobile applications (collectively, the “App”), and on other related sites, tools, applications, or services. By accepting the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use when you create an account and interact with other users on, you expressly consent to our collection, storage, use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy, including its transfer to and storage on our servers in the United States or elsewhere in the world where Knock has facilities.


Creating an account with Knock may involve sharing your name, email address, and phone number. In addition, we may obtain additional information from you. While you can use many functions of without an account, certain activities may require you to have an account. Once you create an account and share your information, you are not anonymous to us. Accordingly, our privacy policy may apply to you even if you do not have an account on our Website. Depending on the services used, we may collect and store the following personal information:

  • personal information such as your name, email address, postal address, phone number and social security number;
  • data collected if you link your account on a third party site (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn) to your Knock account, in which case we will obtain the personal information that you have provided to the third party site, to the extent allowed by your settings with the third party site and authorized by you;
  • move-in date and demographic information such as location, gender, age, marital status, occupation, the type of device through which you access the Website and/or App, and other personal and lifestyle information;
  • financial information such as income, credit scores, or credit card or bank account numbers;
  • additional information we may ask you to send or questions we may ask you to answer to verify your identity (such as your driver’s license, credit card statement, and/or a recent utility bill or other information confirming your address);
  • logs, contact information and other information about the communications between the past, present or potential renters (“Renters”) and the past, present or potential lessors (“Lessors”) using our or communications tools;
  • information automatically collected by cookies and web beacons on your computer or mobile device;
  • information based on your interactions with Knock or the Other Sites and their advertising, such as search information, statistics on page views, traffic to, from and within or Other Sites, ad data, IP address and standard web log information;
  • supplemental information from third parties (for example, if you incur a debt to Knock, we may conduct a credit check by obtaining additional information about you from a credit bureau, as permitted by law); and,
  • information about your location, including general information (e.g., IP address, zip code) and more specific information (e.g., GPS-based functionality on mobile devices used to access the Platform or specific features of the platform). If you access the Platform through a mobile device and you do not want your device to provide us with location-tracking information, you can disable the GPS or other location-tracking functions on your device, provided your device allows you to do this. See your device manufacturer’s instructions for further details.

Knock may use social plugins which are provided and operated by third-party companies, such as Facebook’s Like Button. As a result of this, you may send to the third-party company the information that you are viewing on a certain part of our Service. If you are not logged into your account with the third-party company, then the third party may not know your identity. If you are logged into your account with the third-party company, then the third party may be able to link information about your visit to our Service to your account with them. Similarly, your interactions with the social plugin may be recorded by the third party. Please refer to the third party’s privacy policy to find out more about its data practices, such as what data is collected about you and how the third party uses such data.

We may also collect information about your computer or other access device to mitigate risk and for fraud prevention purposes.


Our primary purpose in collecting personal information is to provide you with a safe, smooth, efficient, and customized experience. We may use your personal information to:

  • provide the services and customer support you request, including confirming communications related to Knock’s services, reminders and transactions;
  • to operate, protect, improve and optimize the Service, Knock’s business, and our users’ experience, such as to perform analytics, conduct research, and for advertising and marketing;
  • contact and communicate with other Renters and/or Lessors;
  • to send you service, support and administrative messages, reminders, technical notices, updates, security alerts, and information requested by you;
  • resolve disputes, collect fees and troubleshoot problems;
  • customize your experience and otherwise measure and improve Knock’s services;
  • send you relevant residential real estate related listings via email, phone, text messaging or push notification on your phone (provided you have not opted out of such communications);
  • deliver targeted marketing, service updates, and promotional offers. (If we use your personal information to market to you, you will be able to opt-out of such communications; see below under “Communications and Communications Tools” and “Cookies.”);
  • make payments to third parties through the Website or the App, should you choose to do so;
  • request your review of a property;
  • compare information for accuracy and verify it with third parties;
  • measure consumer interest in our products and services;
  • summarize your information (including personal information) that you provided to us or our affiliates;
  • help promote a safe service and detect and prevent error, fraud and other potentially prohibited or illegal activity;
  • enforce our agreements, terms, conditions, and policies, and send you notices and alerts; and
  • provide services as otherwise described to you at the time of collection;

We will not sell or rent your personal information to any third parties. We may share some or all of your personal information with:

  • Law enforcement offices, third-party rights owners or others in the good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Use or Privacy Policy; respond to claims that an advertisement, posting or other content violates the rights of a third party; or protect the rights, property or personal safety of our users or the general public;
  • Other third parties whose services you agree to use (e.g., online rent payment services), or with regard to whom you have expressed interest or with whom you initiate communication through Property Contact Forms (See Section 5 Communications). (The information we disclose in this way will be subject to those third parties’ privacy policies.);
  • Service providers under contract who help with our business operations (such as fraud investigations, bill collection, invoicing, telecommunication and call monitoring services, rewards programs, co-branded credit cards, etc.);
  • Another business entity should we plan to merge with, or sell substantially all our assets to that business entity. (Should such a combination occur, we will require that the new combined entity follow this privacy policy with respect to your personal information. If your personal information will be used contrary to this policy, you will receive prior notice.)

We reserve the right to use in any manner and disclose any non-personal information that we collect including cookie and traffic data. Logs, recordings, and other information related to communication between you and third parties in connection with the services and/or other uses and purposes mentioned herein may be stored, maintained and/or divulged to those third parties by us on an individual basis or in the aggregate. Without limiting the above, in an effort to respect your privacy, we will not otherwise disclose your personal information to law enforcement, other government officials, or other third parties without a subpoena, court order or substantially similar legal procedure, except when we believe in good faith that the disclosure of information is necessary to prevent imminent physical harm or financial loss or to report suspected illegal activity.


We may review, scan, or analyze your communications with other users exchanged via the Service for fraud prevention, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, investigation, product development, research and customer support purposes. For example, as part of our fraud prevention efforts, the Platform may scan and analyze messages to mask contact information and references to other websites. This helps to prevent fraudulent actors from asking users to send them money outside of the Service, such as by bank transfer or other money transfer methods. We may also scan, review or analyze messages for research and product development purposes to help make search, booking and user communications more efficient and effective, as well as to debug product offerings.

We will not review, scan, or analyze your communications for sending third party marketing messages to you. We will also not sell these reviews or analyses of communications to third parties. We will also use automated methods to carry out these reviews or analyses where reasonably possible. However, from time to time we may have to manually review some communications. By using the Service, you consent that Knock, in its sole discretion, may review, scan, analyze, and store your communications, whether done manually or through automated means.

We make tools available that facilitate communications between Renters and Lessors by phone or email. When these tools are used, we may collect certain information related to the communication, like email addresses, contact logs, calling number, call duration, contents of the email communication, and call recordings. We may share this information with Lessors so they can manage their communications with Renters, and we will use this information to enforce our rights to collect fees payable by Lessors.

We provide all users with the opportunity to opt out of receiving non-essential (promotional, marketing-related) communications from us. To remove your contact information from lists and newsletters, click on the “unsubscribe” link that is included at the bottom of any Knock email you receive.


Knock uses cookies and other similar technologies on the Service. We may also allow our business partners to use their cookies and other tracking technologies on the Service. As a result, when you access or use the Service, you will provide or make available certain information to us and to our business partners.

While you may disable the usage of cookies through your browser settings, we do not change our practices in response to a “Do Not Track” signal in the HTTP header from your browser or mobile application. We track your activities if you click on advertisements for Knock services on third party platforms such as search engines and social networks, and may use analytics to track what you do in response to those advertisements.

We may, either directly or through third party companies and individuals we engage to provide services to us, also continue to track your behavior on our own Service for purposes of our own customer support, analytics, research, product development, fraud prevention, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, investigation, as well as to enable you to use and access the Service and pay for your activities on the Service. We may also, either directly or through third party companies and individuals we engage to provide services to us, track your behavior on our own Service to market and advertise our services to you on the Service and third party websites. Third parties that use cookies and other tracking technologies to deliver targeted advertisements on our Service and/or third party websites may offer you a way to prevent such targeted advertisements by opting-out at the websites of industry groups such as the Network Advertising Initiative ( and/or the Digital Advertising Alliance ( You may also be able to control advertising cookies provided by publishers, for example Google’s Ad Preference Manager ( Please note that even if you choose to opt-out of receiving targeted advertising, you may still receive advertising on the Service – it just will not be tailored to your interests.


Our Website and App may contain links to other websites that are not under our direct control. These websites may have their own policies regarding privacy. We have no control of or responsibility for linked websites and provide these links solely for the convenience and information of our visitors. You access such linked websites at your own risk. These websites are not subject to this Privacy Policy. You should check the privacy policies, if any, of those individual websites to see how the operators of those third-party websites will utilize your personal information. In addition, these websites may contain a link to Websites of our affiliates. The websites of our affiliates are not subject to this Privacy Policy, and you should check their individual privacy policies to see how the operators of such websites will utilize your personal information.


Your information (other than credit card information) is stored on our servers located in the United States. We treat data as an asset that must be protected and use many tools (encryption, passwords, physical security, etc.) to protect your personal information against unauthorized access and disclosure. However, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, and other users may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from Knock. We work very hard to protect your privacy, but we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information or private communications will always remain private.

Your password is the key to your account. Use unique numbers, letters and special characters, and do not disclose your password to anyone. If you do share your password or your personal information with others, remember that you are responsible for all actions taken in the name of your account. If you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personal information and may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf. Therefore, if your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately notify Knock and change your password.


Knock can provide you with helpful information based on where you are. If you tell us where you are (e.g., by allowing your devices to send us your location), we may use that information to provide you with location-based information and advertising. If you wish to deactivate this feature, you can disable location services on your devices.


The Site, Application and Services are intended solely for persons who are 18 or older. Any access to or use of the Site, Application or Services by anyone under 18 is expressly prohibited. By accessing or using the Site, Application or Services you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older.


We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on We’ll provide you with notice of the changes on the Website. Amended terms take effect upon acceptance for new users and 10 days after they are posted on for all other users.
